Council Announcement

Animal carer Joanne Lawrence addressed council on the August 9 meeting calling to move to a No Kill zone;

She said a no-kill facility would allow animal rescue groups to focus their attention elsewhere.

“It relieves the pressure on animal rescue groups because Camden Council has a fantastic ranger so now that it’s known that Camden is a no-kill facility, attention can be focused elsewhere while the animals are in caring hands,” Miss Lawrence said.

“Camden has gone above and beyond, I asked for no-kill and they’ve also worked to put in an enrichment program and other things to help the animals as well.”

Miss Lawrence praised Camden’s attitudes toward animal care and said she hoped to use it as an example to other councils of what could be achieved.

Camden has committed to not killing any animals that are deemed safe and able to be rehomed and will also implement a policy to include guidelines for the adoption of impounded animals.

No animals were killed in the 2015-16 year in Camden.

Advocates now hope Campbelltown Council will follow Camden’s lead and begin to move towards a no-kill policy.
